The post where I admit that...

Source:
I'm turning 29 tomorrow.

Okay. I'm not turning 29. The number is considerably more than that, but I decided a few years ago that I would celebrate the age I feel, not the age I actually am. This, by the way is something only people over a certain age do. I've never met an 24 year old who wished they were turning 21 again.

Anywhoo. Since I'm on the cusp of a birthday ending in a 0, I decided it's time to put together a bucket list. But, this isn't the I'm old now and so I need to make a list of things to do before I die kind of list. Morgan Freeman and I will not be jumping out of a plane together. Unless he finds this blog post and decides that would be fun. I'm totally up for it Mr. Freeman. Would you read to me at the same time?

Where was I? Oh, right. My bucket list is more like an I'm almost going to be an age that ends in a zero and have things I want to accomplish kind of list.

So, I'm compiling a Single Year Bucket List. No, it is not the same thing as a New Year's Resolution. For one thing, it's June.

Do you want to know what's #1 on my list?

1. Drink a shot.

Beloved Husband has never been drunk. Or so he claims. We've been together since he was 20 and I can honestly say I've never seen him drunk, but we aren't together 24/7.... He does not share in my virgin shot excitement.

It's fine though, because I did enough drinking for the both of us in my early 20s (only a mere eight years ago *wink*). Still, NEVER drank a shot.

I even own a shot glass. How stupid is it that I own a shot glass, but have never drank a shot? Kind of like living on a golf course and not knowing how to golf...wait, I'm doing that too.

You would not believe how many people want to come to my shot party. They all have an opinion about what kind of shot I should partake in as well. It's a thing now in my little corner of the world. Apparently, after the wanton swallowing of an 1.5 ounces of liquor (I had to Google that), people think hijinks will ensue.

Curious about what else is on the list? It's much less exciting.

2. Finish two more books. (That's six months per book starting tomorrow people.)
3. Actually query a novel. (Oh yes, I've written them, I just don't have anything worthy of querying yet).
4. Lose weight. I'm shooting for 52 pounds. A pound a week starting Wednesday (a girl has got to have cake on her birthday).
5. Figure out who my dream agent is.

Item #1 might be able to help me accomplish the rest of the list (except maybe #4, because of the calories yaknow).

What would you put on your one year bucket list? Skydiving (I would love to, but maybe next year) or maybe getting a tattoo (I want one but I'm scairt).

And more importantly, what kind of shot should I get?

  1. My bucket list definitely includes QUERYING a novel. I've got heaps of first drafts, a few more polished works, but nothing that's ready for querying. Maybe my goal next year will be getting a novel to the point where I think it's ready for querying ;)

  2. Thinking about querying gives me hives right now. But only because nothing I have is ready. And, there are days when I feel like it will never BE ready. So, getting something to the point where I think it's ready would be huge! I'd also have to let go of a fair amount of perfectionist tendencies. LOL

  3. Sounds like a good list, Kari! Hm... I'd like to go to the Greek islands and several thousand other places. I'd better get moving!

  5. Happy Birthday, Kari! And I'm with Talli, it not only sounds like a good list but a perfectly doable one. You give it all you've got, girl -- I'll be looking for updates!

    1. LOL. I have to take it one day at a time. Especially with #4. I keep thinking I should add more fun stuff to the list though. It's so goal oriented - and very "me." All work and no play...

  6. I have no shot opinions (probably the only one who doesn't lol) but I do love the idea of a bucket list. I write one every year :) Happy birthday!

  7. Happy Birthday! And go for the Long Island Ice Teas. More bank for the buck and they go down so easy.

  8. Oh...oh...oh....I want an invite to the SHOT party!! Here's my shot recommendation: Alabama Slammer- sloe gin, Amaretto, Southern Comfort. :)

  9. Great list! As for the shot, you need to do a real shot, not just a tasty mixed shot. So, my vote has to be for tequila. It's hard core, but do the whole salt on the wrist, chase it with a lime wedge thing and it's not so bad.

My one-year bucket list would include finishing my current WIP, rewriting another, and getting an agent. And going to Ireland if money was no issue :)

  11. I'm not a drinker, so I can't help you there! But I bet you'll have a few suggestions :)

Love the list - I'm definitely going to make myself query too!

  12. Happy Birthday!

If you are doing a real shot, I would have to agree that tequila is the way to go. If you prefer slow yummy shots, I would suggest an oatmeal cookie or a purple hooter. But definitely make it a double! :)

  14. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!! Ahh, I was in the trenches over here, I confess. You know, your b'day is two days after mine? Yay!!!

OK, as for bucket lists, I don't have one. Maybe that should be on my bucket list. To make a bucket list--LOL! But I do have lots of things I want to do. I want to see Mt. Rushmore, Niagara Falls, Bora Bora... But that shot thing. OK, do one, but then no more. That chizz will mess you up! :D <3

  15. I have had your post open on my screen since Tuesday but just read it now - so HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I hope the cake was fabulous, the book's a page-turner, your shot's delicious and that your writing goals (both querying and agenting) are met.

As for the weight loss, just focus on being healthy and happy.
The rest will take care of itself.

(Or it will still be hard but at least you'll be in it for the right reasons...)

So here's to wishes my friend.
    And to them coming true.

  16. I'm pretty happy and healthy, so I don't really have a bucket list. I would like to be published though...
    Shot = Scotch
Hope your birthday was wonderful! :-)
